What is SchoolPower?
The Laguna Beach Education Foundation also known as SchoolPower is a non-profit foundation comprised of local parents, community members and corporate donors, who raise funds that are given to the LBUSD and distributed to all four public schools via our Teacher Grant program. Founded in 1981, SchoolPower is the first public education foundation established in Orange County.
Why give to SchoolPower?
The Laguna Beach Unified School district is the smallest district within South Orange County. Not only is LBUSD the smallest district, but we are also a basic aid district. This means our state funding for education is derived from our property tax base. Rising costs of maintaining facilities, administering and delivering quality education are spread across a small district of two elementary schools, one middle school and a high school with average enrollment of 2,700+ students. As a result, our district continuously faces budget short falls for faculty and discretionary spending. PTA organizations at the campus level are not enough, so SchoolPower acts as a community wide organization to fill the gap.
