SchoolPower’s Dodgeball III Hits the Mark
Rubber balls and rivalries provided priceless entertainment last Wednesday at the LBHS gyms as the Laguna Beach community turned out in full force for SchoolPower’s eagerly anticipated third annual Dodgeball Tournament.
This marked SchoolPower’s biggest tournament yet, with the schedule being adjusted to accommodate six additional teams when the junior division sold out in the first 24 hours of registration. The addition allowed for 52 teams, made up of more than 400 costume-clad competitors, to battle it out for dodgeball domination in three divisions. ...READ MORE

SchoolPower’s Dodgeball III Hits the Mark (continued)
After facing off against police officers, elementary school teachers and the high school basketball team in elimination rounds, the Thurston Middle School Teachers triumphed over the So Lag Slackers team of parents in the final game to take home the coveted Golden Skull Trophy.
“The TMS dodgeball team would like to thank SchoolPower for putting on another amazing night of fun and competition,” enthused Thurston assistant principal and champion dodgeballer Mike Modeer. “The event itself was well organized and everyone involved shared in a spirit of camaraderie. We are proud of our victory and plan on returning next year to defend the title. Thank you to all of our fans, supporters, and to the referees who kept it fair all night long. A special thanks to our Principal, Jenny Salberg… This win is for you!”
In the 4th-5th grade division, Bedrock Ballers brought home the Golden Skull medals while the team dubbed “We couldn’t think of a name” topped the 6th-8th grade division.
Sporting outrageous outfits and clever costumes, teams also vied to be named best dressed. Competition was so fierce that there was a three-way tie in the 6th-8th grade division with Cereal Dodgeball Assassins, Coed Flame Throwers, and Tre-Bay Ballers sharing the honors. Best costume awards also went to Team Bravefarts in the high school/adult division and Gnomes in the 4th-5th grade division.
The tournament raised over $9,000 for Laguna Beach schools through participant registrations and the support of business sponsors including Hobie Surf Shop, Bluebird Canyon Farms, Bread Artisan Bakery, Gnarly “Q”, Angels Baseball Foundation, Team Laguna Realtors, and Hurley.
“Event chairs Mike and Frana Sadler and Elaine Brashier outdid themselves with Dodgeball III. Mobilizing a fantastic committee of volunteers, this year's tournament was the best one yet — and that's saying something!” said SchoolPower President Samantha Washer. “Who would have thought that blasting your friends and neighbors would be so successful in helping us celebrate our community and our amazing schools?!”
