Dodgeball

The LBHS Gyms were jumping, or should we say, “dodging”, Thursday as SchoolPower hosted its highly anticipated 2nd Annual Dodgeball Tournament. Three different divisions named their champions from teams that came from all parts of the community: teachers, lifeguards, police, merchants, firefighters and, of course, enthusiastic parents and students.

This year, coming from out of nowhere, the team Skillz that Killz took home the coveted Golden Skull Trophy when they defeated the Black Eyed Peas in the final game. “Thanks to SchoolPower for hosting an amazing event. The members of Skillz that Killz are humbled by this great achievement and in awe of the sheer awesomeness of our fellow competitors. It makes the victory that much sweeter. Every time one of our balls hit an opposing player in the face I thought ‘THAT is for THE CHILDREN!’ Now we are going to Disneyland!” enthused champion dodgeballer Will Boyd.

For the 4th& 5th graders The Bomb Squad II brought home the Golden Skull Medals and The Night Flyers won for the 6th-8th Grade Division.

SchoolPower president, Marcus Skenderian, said, “My hat goes off to event chairs Mike and Frana Sadler, as well as their committee for making this such a great event. They brought a level of enthusiasm to this event that was contagious. You really can’t describe how much fun it is to play until you’ve done it!”

SchoolPower’s Dodgeball Tournament netted over $11,000 through participant registrations and the support of local business sponsors including Hobie, Bluebird Canyon Farms, Bread Artisan Bakery, Team Laguna, Toes on the Nose and Hurley. SchoolPower considers the Dodgeball Tournament a community event – a chance to bring the whole community together in celebration of Laguna schools. Judging by Thursday’s event, it’s obvious there’s a lot to celebrate.
