Thurston Middle School's principal, Dr. Culverhouse, faced off against Laguna Beach High School's principal, Dr. Austin, at Lumberyard Restaurant in downtown Laguna for the first annual SchoolPower Chef Challenge.

Working with Lumberyard chef, Armando Ortega, each principal designed a menu including an appetizer, entrée, and dessert to show off their culinary talent. Diners enjoyed both chefs' menus then voted on each element of the meal to determine who will reign as this year's king or queen of the kitchen.

Dr. Culverhouse opted for a seafood offering with "something chocolate" for dessert, while Dr. Austin chose a more seasonal rustic meat and potatoes approach.

Good friends and a fun rivalry made for an unforgettable evening and, thanks to Lumberyard owner, Cary Redfearn's generosity, helped SchoolPower reach its goals for Laguna Beach kids.
